About This Photograph
The Rosette Nebula is an active star-forming region in the constellation of Monoceros (the Unicorn) located to the left of Orion's left shoulder star, Betelgeuse. Two bright stars near the center of the Rosette are primarily responsible for causing the bright emission from the gasses of the nebula. The Rosette is situated near one end of a vast molecular cloud, filaments of which can be seen below and to the left.
