Frequently Asked Questions...

What determines the prices of the prints?

Prints are priced by size, and include only a small profit margin for the artist. Considering the large investment in equipment needed to take high-quality astronomy photographs, Russell Croman's prints are priced very reasonably.

The photo I want is not in The Store... how can I get a print of it?

Most of the images in Russell Croman's gallery are available as prints, even if they don't appear in the store. Contact Russell Croman specifying which photos you're interested in and you will receive an email response with information on availability.

I'm concerned about print quality... how are they made?

Prints are produced by Pictopia.com on archival photographic paper (Fuji Crystal Archive) with a special printer that uses lasers to expose the paper. The paper is then developed like a regular photograph. For more information, visit the Pictopia.com FAQ.

Can I get prints in a matte finish instead of glossy?

No. Prints are available in glossy finish only. Astronomical images are particularly high in contrast, and display best on glossy paper.

How will the prints be shipped?

Prints 11x14 and smaller are shipped flat. Larger prints are rolled and shipped in a sturdy tube. Shipping is via FedEx. Shipping options (overnight, economy, etc.) can be specified at the time of checkout.

How can I have my order shipped to a non-US location?

This can be specified during checkout.

Can I have the prints sent to an address other than my own?

Yes, and you can even include a gift card for a small fee.

How long will it take to get my prints?

Once your order is submitted to Pictopia.com, it generally takes only two business days for it to ship. Shipping method can be specified at the time of the order.

Orders submitted directly to me via the direct order form are eventually ordered via Pictopia.com. Once payment has been received (and cleared in the case of a personal or company check), it again generally takes only two business days for the order to ship.

How may I use the prints I buy?

Prints are sold for your personal use, such as for decoration in your home or office, or a gift to someone else. You may generally use the prints you purchase in any manner you choose, so long as it does not involve making a duplicate of the photograph (whether print or digital), and the use is non-commercial in nature. If you would like to inquire about using photos for another purpose, please see the Copyright and Usage page. A usage request form is available to be submitted there. Additional fees may apply.

Can I copy or publish the photo I bought?

Not without written permission. See the answer to How may I use the prints I buy? above.

Can I use the photo on my website?

Can I get a digital copy of a photo instead of a print?

Under certain conditions, yes. Please see the Copyright and Usage page. A usage request form is available to be submitted there.
